Insects & Teen Numbers- Part 1

We are back from spring break and ready for the 4th quarter!! I hope all of you who were on spring break had a great and relaxing spring break! For those who still have spring break to come, I hope you have a great one!

We jumped right into a fun week!! We started to learn about teen numbers and about insects!! We will be learning about teen numbers for the next couple weeks and will also continue my insect unit next week. Here is what our fun week looked like:

Monday

We learned how to show teen numbers on ten frames. We learned that each teen number always has 1 ten frame filled in all the way.

   

   

We practiced filling in ten frames to show teen numbers.

We matched teen numbers to the correct filled in ten frames.

   

We read nonfiction books about insects and made an informational chart on what we learned.

Then, the students filled in the own charts.

We labeled the different parts of an insect.

And then we drew a diagram of an insect. These will go into our flip books that we make tomorrow.

Tuesday

We started off the day by matching teen numbers to ten frames.

Today we practiced making our teen numbers on ten frames.

We determined how many more fly's we needed to add to make a teen number.

We painted dots in ten frames to show teen numbers.

We used our insect informational charts to write different facts that we learned about insects.

We put all of the pages together to make an insect informational flip book.

      

   

   

Wednesday

We started the day finding how many more dots we need to add to make the teen number.

We counted bugs in our mini readers: 'I Can See TEENy Insects'

We made shapes in ten frames to show teen numbers.

   

We read a nonfiction book about ants and wrote down facts that we learned about them.

Students wrote some facts that they learned.

Then we made an ant and turned it into a book!

  

Thursday

We started the day by reading our teen number mini readers and filling in ten frames to go with our sentence.

   

   

We found the correct teen number using ten frames.

We practiced making teen numbers with ants! They had a group of 10 ants together and then had to add individual ants to make the number.

Then, we read a mini reader where we counted on and added ants to make a teen number.

   

    

We read the adorable story 'Hey, Little Ant!' and wrote about whether or not the boy should step on the ant. We made a cute little craft to go with it!

(So Cute!! This little girl said that he should not step on the ant because his family needs him)

We played a fun game where I gave students a card (number cards or filled in ten frame card) and they had to walk around the room to find the matching pair!

Friday

We learned about teen numbers using base ten blocks today. We started by practicing make teen numbers with the blocks on our white boards.

   

We matched teen numbers to base ten blocks.

We read a mini reader where students counted the base ten blocks and filled in the blank with the teen number to complete the sentence.

We started to learn about bees today. We read a nonfiction book and wrote facts that we learned about them. We have learned so much about insects this week!

We wrote some facts that we learned about bees.

   

Then we made a bee and placed our writing underneath the belly (or abdomen)!

     

   

We are so excited to continue our insect unit next week!!
