Fun on the Farm! Part 1

What a fun week we had! We began my Fun on the Farm Unit and had a blast learning about farmers, cows, and pigs this week.

Check out all the fun we had with the first part of my farm unit:

All About Farmers
We began the week learning all about Farmers. We read a nonfiction book about Farmers and created an interactive writing anchor chart with all of the things we learned.

Then, we wrote some facts that we learned about Farmers.

We turned our facts about farmers into a barn book.

All About Cows
Our first farm animal we learned about were cows. We read a nonfiction book about Cows and created an interactive writing anchor chart with all of the things we learned.

Then, we wrote some facts that we learned about Cows.

We a made a cute cow craft and placed our writing underneath the stomach.

We read the cute story, 'Click Clack Moo' and we wrote our very own letter to Farmer Brown.

We had so much fun making our own butter!! (Sorry for the blurry pictures. We were shaking as hard as we could!!)

The butter was delicious!

We wrote about how we made the butter in a mini book.

All About Pigs
Next, we learned about Pigs. We read a nonfiction book about Pigs and created an interactive writing anchor chart with all of the things we learned.

Then, we wrote some facts that we learned about Pigs.

We made a pig craft and turned it into our pig info book!

This boy told me that his pig was hot and needed to roll around in the mud. Haha! Love it!

Then, we read 'If You Give a Pig a Pancake'. We retold the story by sequencing the different parts of the story.

Then, I had my students sequence the story on their own and then retell the story to a friend.

We talked about cause and effect from the story. We wrote about what we would give the pig and then what they pig will want.

Then we made a pig to hold our writing.

Here are some math activities that we did this week from my farm unit:

We compared groups by finding which group had more.

We added spots on cows!

We compared groups by finding which group had less.

We practiced writing greater or less than on our practice mats and on our own.

We played a card game with our farm number cards where they compared numbers.

We practiced addition stories with different farm animals.

I am so excited to have more fun next week learning about more farm animals!
