Penguins- Week 2

What a week (if you consider ONLY 2 days of school… a week!!)

We had a HUGE snow storm this week and had 3 days of school cancelled! This week was our 2nd week of working on our Penguin Unit! We of course did not get everything done that I was hoping, but my kiddos were wonderful and worked hard on Monday and Friday to squeeze in as much as we could. I was very proud of them!

Here is what our SUPER SHORT week looked like:

We practice subtracting on a number line.
    

   



We finished our penguin vocabulary books!

We sorted, graphed, and did some addition with goldfish crackers.
   


We worked on our penguin research books.
   

We read Tacky the Penguin and did a story map.

We started our Tacky the Penguin Books
       

We also made a character map about Tacky.


We  used our maps to write about Tacky's character and designed a new shirt for him!
   


   

We practiced subtracting on our super large number line!
   

We did a subtraction stories book and showed all of our different strategies.


   

We read different Tacky stories and compared them to each other. We did not get to all of the stories.

We did a Penguin Diagram and added our own penguin diagrams to our Penguin Research Books.



We finished our Penguin Research Books and added a cover!

Name Activities

Setting up the classroom is very exciting and can be quite overwhelming, but there is always one thing on my mind that seems to take FOREVER to come! I don't know about you, but I literally can't wait for the second I get my hands on my class list! As teachers, we LOVE to label, label, label, label, and did I mention LABEL?!?! As soon as I look through my class list I officially get into GO mode to get labels created and placed on what seems like 100+ different areas in my classroom. For some reason it makes me feel like my classroom is more ready to go and I feel so much more organized when everything is labeled! I am sure I sound nuts, but maybe there is someone out there that feels the same! Another thing I absolutely LOVE about getting my class list is that I am able get a head start on creating my different Name Activities for each student. More Thanksgiving Fun!

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL and RELAXING  Thanksgiving!! We had a fun couple days finishing up our Thanksgiving unit. Here is a look at our super short week: Monday We practiced making groups of 5. We played a number game where students had to say a number and see if the turkey was hiding behind it. We dressed up as pilgrims!!  We read a very cute story called 'The Thanksgiving Surprise'. We wrote about where we would hide a turkey. (I will hide the turkey in the bath tub.) (I will hide the turkey in a pan.) (I will hide the turkey in my trampoline.) (I will hide the turkey in the bus.) We made pumpkin pie in a cup! I had some good cooks! We made this out of pumpkin spice instant pudding, graham crackers, and cool whip.  Yum!! We graphed whether or not we like the pumpkin pie. We recorded our data. Tuesday We started the day with practicing one-to-one correspondence. Today, we dressed up as Indians!! We made a vest, necklace, and headband. We played a fun turkey sight...
